Green research

Green research

Green research can improve the climate and environment of the world and also ensure employment and export in Denmark.

One of Denmark's core strengths in the energy area is wind. Strong Danish research environments in the wind energy sector and the close interplay between research, industry and Danish energy policy have made it attractive for international windmill manufacturers to place key research and development activities in Denmark.

Efficient energy

Danish research environments are also leading in terms of efficient energy utilisation and an intelligent and integrated energy system capable of handling the natural fluctuations of the many small sources of renewable energy. In addition, the first Danish demonstration plant involving fuel cells is being established. These core strengths are among the initiatives supported by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation in its new green research and innovation strategy.

Electric cars, heat pumps and new battery types are just some of the areas in which Danish researchers are working to ensure efficient energy utilisation and create intelligent and integrated energy systems.

Low energy consumption in Denmark

The development of green technologies has contributed to Denmark being one of the countries that have the lowest energy consumption relative to its GDP. There are about 720 Danish enterprises in the green sector with a turnover of more than DKK 300 billion and 120,000 employees.
